Acne Scars

It is estimated that 80% of people aged 11-30 will be affected by acne, mainly coming into fruition during puberty and pregnancy.

Several techniques can be used to try and improve the appearance of acne scarring.

It is difficult to get rid of scars once they have formed so effective management of active acne is important to try and prevent them.

If your acne is no longer active but you have been left with some scarring then the following techniques can be considered.

Microdermabrasion

Chemical Peels

Fractional Mesotherapy

When the acne has subsided, sometimes the scars from spots or picking can remain, leaving crater-like dimples or lumps and bumps.

This is usually the case if you scratch or pick your spots whilst the acne is still active.

In more severe cases, the body can effectively put "too much effort" into dealing with the wound, meaning that there is an excess of collagen built up.

This collagen may stay in place permanently, creating the scarring.

Different types of scarring may be present in the same person and different types of scarring respond better to different types of treatment.

Therefore, it is common for one person to need a combination of treatments or procedures.

A true scar cannot be reversed but it can be dramatically improved.

This first thing to note is what kind of scar it is – if at all.

What some people think is acne scarring is very often discolouration, which is reversible.

If you have dark skin, and you squeeze it, it often leaves a dark mark. This can be treated, as it's pigmentation, not an acne scar.

Our recommendations:

Chemical Peels

Diamond Microdermabrasion

Fractional Mesotherapy
